Piwniczna-Zdrój

Relaxing in the Sądecki Beskid Mountains

Explore Subregion

Piwniczna-Zdrój is a charming spa town located in a picturesque valley of the Poprad River in the Sądecki Beskid mountains. The town is famous for its unique mineral waters, known as “acid waters,” and its extensive network of hiking and cycling trails leading towards Radziejowa or Eliasówka. Thanks to its location right on the border with Slovakia, it is an excellent base for those who want to combine relaxation in the spa with active outdoor recreation.

  • The Art Gallery and Water Therapy Center

This is a unique place on the city map, combining the function of a mineral water spring with an art gallery and a concert hall, creating a cultural center for the region.

  • Rafting on the Poprad River

One of the biggest tourist attractions, offering a safe and incredibly scenic boat trip through the river valley, which meanders strongly in this area.

  • Free access to mineral water sources

Unlike many large spa towns, in Piwniczna and the surrounding villages (e.g., Głębokie), numerous mineral springs are publicly accessible, and you can draw water directly from their natural outlets.

### A Health Resort Climate and Mountain Challenges

Piwniczna-Zdrój is a place with a unique atmosphere, where time seems to slow down compared to the bustling Zakopane or Krynica. The heart of the town is an unusual, sloping market square with a historic well, from which streets branch out leading directly to the riverside promenades. It is the Poprad River that sets the tone for the entire town – its murmur and the cool air from the water create a specific microclimate, ideal for regenerating the respiratory system and relaxing away from the urban smog.

For lovers of active tourism, Piwniczna is a starting point for some of the most interesting trails in the Sądecki Beskid mountain range. From here, you can set off for Eliaszówka, where a modern observation tower is located, or take on the challenge and climb Radziejowa, the highest peak in the range. This region is also a paradise for cycling enthusiasts – numerous routes of varying difficulty levels, including the popular EuroVelo 11 route, allow you to explore the Polish-Slovak border on two wheels.

It is worth mentioning that Piwniczna-Zdrój focuses on sustainable tourism. The modern spa park in Zapopradzie, with a complex of swimming pools, an amphitheater, and an observation tower, is an example of a well-designed recreational space that does not overwhelm the natural landscape. The proximity to the border also allows for quick trips to Slovak neighbors, such as the nearby Mniszek nad Popradem, which makes a stay in Piwniczna diverse and full of attractions on both sides of the river.
